CRACKED HEELS
Cracked heel is a very common problem in women. Cracked heels means splitting of skin from the heels due to pressure. In Medical language, cracked heels are known as Heel Fissures. There are many reasons for the splitting up of the skin. When one suffers from the cracked heels , their skin around the heels get too hard and dry so that it become difficult for a person to walk because it causes too much pain. The skin of heels get cracked when we put pressure on heels. The skin of heels get dry and hard and splits during walking and standing. It is common in those who do not moisturize their feet regularly or rub their skin. It may also cause various types of foot infections.
SYMPTOMS
- RED SKIN – It is the first sign of cracked heels. Due to dryness the skin of our feet become white and then it turn red in color. This is mainly found in professionals who usually wear nylon socks during their working hours.
- PEELED & CRACKED SKIN- If our skin remain dry for a long time then small cracks will appear on our skin due to excessive dryness. It is very painful. If you have cracked skin do not pull it as it may damage the skin and cause bleeding.
- ITCHY SKIN- The dryness damages the upper layer of the skin and cause itching or irritation on the skin.
CAUSES
1) Due to wearing of shoes that are too tight or too loose , one can suffer from cracked heels. Socks made of nylon fibers may also be the reason of dry and cracked heels.
2) The Athlete’s foot is the main cause of cracked heels. Athlete’s foot is caused by fungus and one can usually get it by walking barefooted in wetty areas.
3) Due to came in contact with the chemicals. When we buy new pair of shoes and try it barefooted our foot get in contact with factory chemicals and become dry.
4) The main reason of dry skin is the age. As one get older, the skin will lose their elasticity and become more dry.
5)Working more in low humidity environment may also cause dry and cracked heels.
6) Use of non-moisturizing soaps for bathing.
7) Walking barefoot or standing for long time in the sun may cause heels crack.
8) The persons who suffers from diabetes or thyroid may have a problem of cracked heels because it makes the feet swell and damages the skin.
9)Keeping the feet more in water also makes the skin dry and brittle.

HOME REMEDIES FOR HEALING CRACKED HEELS
1- Make an ointment by boiling ½ candle or wax in 1 small bowl of mustard oil. Massage your feet with this ointment every night after washing your feet with warm water.
2- Massage your feet daily with olive oil after bathing and wear socks. Avoid nylon socks.
3- Mash ripe banana in a bowl and mix 1sp of lemon juice in it to make a thick paste. Now apply this paste on foot and leave it for 20 minutes. After that wash your feet with warm water and apply Vaseline on it.
4- Soak your foot in warm water for 15 minutes and slightly rub a soft foot brush on your feet to remove the dry dead skin and after that massage it with olive oil.
5- In a ½ filled bucket of warm water squeeze 1 lemon and soak your feet for 15-20 minutes. Then apply glycerin on it.
- Try to soak your feet in warm water twice in a week.
- Moisturize your feet with good moisturizer regularly after bathing.
- Avoid wearing tight or loose shoes.
- Do not scratch or pull your skin from affected areas.
- Avoid taking hot bath.
- Avoid walking barefoot especially in moist areas.
- Always keep your feet clean.
- Try to wash your socks with detergents made up of organic substances.
- Avoid wearing nylon socks.
- Also avoid walking barefoot in the sun.
